Sky Ridge
Set at the base of the Andreas Hills in south Palm Springs, Sky Ridge is conceived as a modern desert estate that responds deliberately to both its dramatic terrain and the rhythms of indoor-outdoor living. The home is organized as a collection of distinct yet connected volumes—including a main living pavilion, detached primary suite, guest casita, and garage—arranged in a T-shaped configuration that shelters courtyards from the nearby hiking trail while opening toward expansive mountain views. This configuration creates a series of protected outdoor living spaces, allowing the house to feel simultaneously open and secluded. At the center of the composition, a spacious great room anchors the plan, where floor-to-ceiling glazing and clerestory windows frame the surrounding ridgelines and draw daylight deep into the interior.
Material choices and detailing further ground the architecture in its desert setting. Concrete block, steel trellises, and Parklex cladding provide durability while introducing texture, warmth, and animating shadow shifting throughout the day. Deep overhangs and carefully placed shading elements temper the desert sun, extending the enjoyment of outdoor courts and reinforcing seamless indoor–outdoor living. Layered landscaping and low walls establish privacy without disconnecting the home from its setting, allowing views of the mountains and sky to remain ever-present. The result is a refined yet relaxed desert retreat—welcoming to guests, responsive to climate, and rooted in a clear architectural dialogue between dwelling, landscape, and place.
